The story of Aris, a 12,000 immortal as he travels through the long road that is his life giving us a glimpse at the world and the universe through his eyes.

I Immortal Afobos 9781478168744 Books

I did enjoy this book. The story is paced well and overall character development is also done well. The premise of hearing someone share the highlights of their life who is immortal was fascinating. However, the book is in dire need of a editor. The word 'run' is used when 'ran' should be used frequently and 'build' instead of 'built'. (maybe a find/replace was used which messed these words up?) Tense can change and cause some confusion, and even quotations are not around every piece of dialogue. These issues detracted from the overall experience with the book so an editor going through the book would be a tremendous help.

Some additional notes for the author:
******SPOILER******

One of the characters being Paul from the Bible was really interesting, however you write that Paul was one of the disciples, which he wasn't. He wrote a good portion of the New Testament but never walked with Jesus. I expected a paragraph to be in there somewhere to claim that the history passed down in the Bible was not accurate regarding Paul, but this was never presented so it makes it seem like the author is not knowledgeable about who Paul was which detracted from the story.

I also feel the story would have felt more plausible as 'real' if Nikodemus had not been the 43rd President of the United States (changing the history we know to be true). I really enjoyed the idea of 'What if this is a real biography?' as I read the first half of the book and that was lost with the two issues I point to above.

All of that said I still enjoyed this book a lot and had it not been for editing issues I would have likely given it 4 stars. No editing issues and the two items I mention above and this would have fallen into my very hard to attain 5 star category. It truly is a unique book and I hope you continue to write more.

I Immortal Afobos 9781478168744 Books Reviews

This book is an exercise in adolescent wish-fulfillment, written by an author with the vocabulary and English composition skills of a 4th grader. The only positive criticism I can offer to other readers considering this amateurish and painfully constructed novel is that, despite all of its considerable flaws, at every point of the story I found myself interested in what was going to happen next. For that reason, and for that reason alone, I actually managed to finish the book. And as my policy is to never give less than three stars to a book that holds my interest start-to-finish, I must reluctantly award those stars to this grammar, composition, vocabulary, and punctuation train wreck.
I downloaded this for free on recommendation. I thought the premise was quite interesting, the character seemed well thought out and some of the scenes were intriguiing. My biggest complaint would be that this story still felt like I was reading the author's notes about his story, not the actual novel itself. This seems like a first draft, it could have used a little more direction and suspense building.I did find myself just skipping through the pages and reading only the first line or two of each paragraph. I was able to get the idea of the chapters this way, but the writing didn't make me want to invest too much time into it. I would suggest a second draft with less narative, and more dialogue and action. Keep it up though, the story has it's good moments.
This book was a recommendation from Hugh howey who wrote the wool series. I have to say I am hooked and thought it was a great book! I can totally picture it as a movie too. It had the great qualities of the whole vampire immortality but way less cheezy. I loved all the historical references from an immortal roaming the earths point of view. I can't wait for the sequel! (there better be one. Don't leave us hanging!!)
I wasn't going to say anything but when I saw that a paperback version exists for $14, that prompted this action. I despise writing negative commentary so I'm going to do my best to keep this positive

There are a few interesting premises in the story but...

We have no reason to worry for the main character since death is not an issue for him, ever. The reader is never emotionally engaged and this becomes nothing but a man talking about himself, period.

The writer doesn't trust the readers and we're told every few pages how invulnerable or strong or fast he is. (That got seriously old and it lasts through the entire book.)

Our main character and his friends have ALL been a part of almost every bit of our recorded history. For folks who try not to interfere in the history of the human species, well, needless to say that they're there throughout. From sitting at the table of Jesus, chasing Hitler, writing timeless novels as famous authors, destroying Atlantis and saving humanity from the snake head suit wearing aliens (where have we heard that one before), there seem to be a multitude of familiar themes we've seen on TV.

The writer either had no editor, never let an editor see this version or it was written by one of those spam bots that spits out sorry looking comments on websites. (Website owners know what I'm talking about. We get them all the time in the spam filters).

But this book could be a great tool for aspiring writers to see what not to do and how to actually trust your readers or yourself in telling a story. It's a good "tool" to learn from.

I was once told I write like a NASCAR fan and when I have issues with a written piece, that can't be good. I picked this book up on the advice of an author I trust but it was free. Though even free, that might have been too big of a price to pay.

I apologize for this negative bit Afobos, but I had to get this out there in case someone was thinking about dropping $14 on a version of the book. That I could not let happen, because like Aris, I needed to take this opportunity to protect the innocent!

Update One aspect I did not take into account is where the author is from, which is Greece. (I just checked) This could explain some of my lack of connecting with his writing. -B
